Triathlon training program begins Friday

Get Out! Durango will hold a seven-week training program for those interested in participating in triathlons, particularly the Tri the Rim Triathlon on April 17, and it will begin with a reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Durango Public Library.
The program is available to participants of all ability levels and will wrap in time for the Tri the Rim Triathlon in April.

The Fort Lewis College cycling team turned to longtime bicycle racer & cycling coach Chris McGovern to lead the program on an interim basis. Jimmy Kight, another multi-discipline cycling coach, was named the women’s road coach for this season.

Wells Bros. cyclocross race Sunday at DMR

Durango biking brothers Todd and Troy Wells will team up with Durango Mountain Resort to present the Wells Bros. Cyclocross Race at Purgatory on Sunday.
Olympic mountain biker Todd Wells will be on hand to host the event, and he will race as well. Brother Troy will race if his schedule allows.
The 50-minute race will begin with a mass start at 10 a.m. Riders can race in men's or women's A or B categories.
The course is designed as a spectator-friendly venue.

Mountain bikers for the first-year Get Out! Durango program had a strong weekend Aug. 14-15 competing in the Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race in Dolores and the Dirt Lovers Rally in Horse Gulch.
In Dolores at the 12th annual Escalante Days, Get Out! Durango's Charlie Greenberg won the 14-18-year-old, 13-mile men's division in 58 minutes, 31 seconds. He edged runner-up Jake Yackle by 25 seconds and third-place finisher Nye Yackle by almost 10 minutes.

August 15, 2010, Durango, CO – The Get Out! Durango cyclists returned to their own backyard for a repeat of yesterday's Escalante Days podium finishes with two more first place wins at the Dirt Lovers Rally, held today in Horse Gulch. The casual and fun hometown race featured a mass start with three different courses for beginner, sport, and expert, covering almost the entire Telegraph trail system.

Saturday, August 14, 2010, Dolores, CO – The 12th Annual Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race attracted a fun-loving crowd of riders and their families for a festive day of food, baked goods, art, face painting, and, of course, bike racing. Sponsored by the Dolores Rotary Club and the Dolores Chamber of Commerce, the event took riders from a mass start through downtown Dolores and up a paved road to the singletrack trails on the San Juan National Forest.

Durango racers compete at Rabbit Valley

Durango's mountain bike racers left their mark in the singletrack last weekend. Area riders and cyclists with the new Get Out! Durango competed in the Rabbit Valley Rally near Fruita, the first race of the Mountain States Cup mountain bike racing series.
The event also was the opening showcase for Get Out! Durango, a recently created organization that provides focused athletic training for under-23 athletes.
